Introduction

Allied Masonic Degrees are a body of detached or “ side” degrees which were conferred many years ago  under Craft Warrants  in many Craft Lodges .   When Freemasonry discontinued the working of outside  degrees many became dormant.  They were later organized together by a governing body ….”the Allied Masonic Degrees,”  for the benefit of Freemasonry.

An AMD Council is limited by Grand Council law to twenty-seven members and membership is by invitation.  Councils are governed by a national Grand Council with the aid of area Grand Superintendents.  The Grand Council meets every February in Alexandria, Virginia during “D.C. Masonic Week” which is a In-Gathering of many concordant bodies.  Other AMD In-Gatherings are organized by state or specific area.  California AMD holds its In-Gathering on the third Saturday in May preceding the California Grand York Rite Sessions held in Bakersfield, California.  While the York Rite Sessions are held at a local hotel, the AMD In-Gathering is conducted at the Bakersfield Masonic Temple for a more complete Masonic atmosphere.
